12 hectares of picturesque park surround one of the most ancient buildings of the city - the elegant Cathedral, under the walls of which is the grave of the great philosopher I. Kant.
The Cathedral is the only stone on the islandbuilding, but it was not always ... Even before the middle of the last century on the island there were many houses, among which was the town hall, there was boiling trade and running trams. During the war most of the buildings did not survive, and the cathedral had to be restored for a long time.
Today, a unique monument of theGothic architecture is open to visitors only as a museum. It amazes the imagination with colored reflections of stained glass, skilfully carved icons and unmatched organ sound that can be heard during concerts. Nearby is the Museum of Philosophy, dedicated to Immanuel Kant.
In 1984 it was decided to create aKaliningrad Sculpture Park. Works of famous artists of the XX century, laureates of state prizes, corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Arts were handed over from Moscow. Unique works, each in its own style and style, give the park a special charm. Sculpture Park belongs to the Kaliningrad Historical and Art Museum, since 2007 it has been a cultural heritage site. In the near future, it is planned to carry out the reconstruction of the park zone and create a single architectural complex on the island.
