The development of the Ford Mustang began in 1968 at the Brighton factory. The car belongs to the models of the most rare modification, which is of value for this series.
The machine appeared as a result of creating a project forNaskar. Ford was looking for a developer who could offer an engine that could compete for a motor four hundred and twenty-six in the racing series. According to the decree, the producers participating in the project needed to make at least 500 serial cars and realize them through a network of dealers. After much thought, Ford decided to use the model as the basis for installing an updated engine.
Directly from the manufacturer's assembly lineThe original models of cars are delivered to the factory territory, and Ford Mustang Boss is produced from them. A lot of changes were added to the vehicle design: more space between the cups on the racks in the front, the wings of the steel became more convex to accommodate the volumetric engine, changed the fixing points of the front beam to locate the exhaust system, the battery was placed in the trunk, two stabilizers were installed, adjustable air intake.
Ford Mustang Boss 429 received a power of three hundredseventy-five liters per second and a torque of six hundred and ten nanometers, although in reality the power was more than five hundred liters per second. To reduce transport tax and insurance, manufacturers with dealers noted less power.
In comparison with other modifications, the Ford Mustangalmost did not differ from the production car. On the outside, only the emblem on the wing in front of the wheel arch stood out. To give uniqueness to any model, a special NASCAR identifier was assigned with a number that starts with two letters K to recall Kara Kraft.
Unfortunately, in 1970, due to the fact thatthe cost for fuel and the cost of production was increased, the implementation decreased, and the decision was made to close the Boss 429 project. At present it is rather difficult to find a similar car in the conditions of the secondary market. In 2008 at the auctions Barrett-Jackson and eBay for the updated model Ford Mustang 429 require more than 350 thousand dollars.
In 1969, eight hundred and fifty-nine models were produced. It was possible to make a choice of five colors (two shades of black, white, red and maroon).
The salon was offered only in black design. Each car was supplied with a mechanical transmission. Installation of the air conditioner was not feasible due to the rather large dimensions of the engine. The engine of the Boss 429 was created by the process of finalizing the Ford 385 power unit. The Ford Mustang's engine compartment was not large enough to fit the Boss 429.
It was decided to hire Kara Kraft from the cityDearborn, who used to adapt the modification of the Ford Mustangs 428 Cobra Jet Mach 1 to the location of the updated engine and worked under a contract with Ford on several projects, including the Ford Mustang Boss 302 for racing competitions. Each car was supplied with a mechanical transmission. Installation of the air conditioner was impossible because of the engine with rather large dimensions. In 1970, four hundred ninety-nine such models were created. Added new versions of body colors. It began to be painted with orange, green, coral shades. For the salon was given a choice of black or black and white colors. The cars had an air intake matt black on the hood, regardless of the color of the body. The air conditioner did not appear.
