Crack in the bone

Fissura ossis - bone fracture, a violation of its integrity, but not complete, but partial. In other words, a crack in the bone. It is considered a kind of fracture, accompanied by acute pain.

A crack in a bone can be single (maybemultiple), surface, through. In relation to the axis - oblique, longitudinal and spiral. It occurs when mechanical effects directly on the bone: impact, fall, etc., when the load exceeds the ultimate strength. With a fracture, the bone loses its supporting function, and this function is retained during a fracture.

Crack in the bone. Symptoms. The very first signal is pain.Usually it is sharp and piercing, sometimes tingling, dull and throbbing (at rest). Another typical symptom is soreness during touching. The place where a crack in the bone is likely to swell and turn red. Swelling does not come immediately, but only after a day or more. That is why a crack is often confused with a strong bruise (and in that, and in this case, the painful sensations play a role). Mobility is rarely limited, but again accompanied by severe pain syndrome. Pain occurs even with a slight touch. Any damage in this case (be it a fracture or just a crack) breaks the integrity of the periosteum, in which there are a lot of pain receptors. What is the sign of damage to the periosteum? Here the symptom of the load loads works: when the pressure on the bone in the longitudinal (do not confuse with the transverse) direction, pain arises, sharp and sharp. That's what it says about the damage. It is very difficult to step on your foot or lean on your hand. The most commonly recorded cracks in the bones of the skull (accompanied, as a rule, by concussions of the brain) and the ribs (manifested as prolonged chest pain, especially intensifying on inspiration). Slightly less often - in the extremities.

If you have a suspicion that a crackthere are still bones, contact the hospital for help. It is inappropriate to self-medicate in the form of lotions, compresses, flavors and ointments. And the treatment should only be under the supervision of a doctor. Without an X-ray, you can not be sure of the diagnosis. Both the fracture of the bone and the fracture (hidden) are quite similar to each other, but, despite similar therapy, require a different attitude. The fact is that with fractures there may be displacements, which are visible only in the pictures. And this means that a more serious approach is required. Incorrect intergrowth threatens with serious consequences. In addition, fragments may be present. All this may well lead to the development of arthritis, impaired motor functions and even embolism. There may be a need for osteotomy (the bone is broken again in order to "put" it correctly). This is much more serious than it may seem. That is why it is important not to postpone the examination and find out exactly what happened to the bone. Your further treatment depends on this.

A crack in the bone, in contrast to a complete fracture, overgrows quickly. It is possible that you will impose a cast. In any case, you need to fix the injured place and limit the maximum load. No medicine is needed here. The main medicine in this case is the rest. It is possible to use various kinds of ointments that give an analgesic effect. There are no drugs that accelerate the process of bone healing. Therefore, do not fall for the beautiful tales of those who, perhaps, will offer such "miraculous" means. The safest thing that can be is taking the calcium preparations. By the way, calcium without vitamin D3 and magnesium is practically not digested. But if you decide to drink vitamins, then take a better complete complex of vitamins and minerals right away. The intake of vitamins (namely, a complete complex, preferably with lysine) is not a cure, but it can serve as a preventive measure.
