Argon arc welding is aa kind of electric arc welding. The peculiarity of the technological process is the following: an argon-arc welding machine creates a protective gas environment. This prevents possible oxidation of the welded materials.
Argon-arc welding machines create specialconditions in the welding zone, in which the welded parts, electrodes, filler material, seam area and a small area of the seam are located. All these elements are surrounded by a neutral inert gas called argon. The gas is supplied through a special channel - a nozzle - located on the holder of the electric burner.
The name of the entire technological process has come from this distinctive feature - a special inert gas.
Welding machines of argon-arc welding consistfrom the following important and irreplaceable structural elements: a non-consumable electrode made from a refractory material and a filler material that melts fairly easily and allows several parts to be combined together. The material of the electrode often becomes tungsten, because it has all the required qualities and excellent characteristics for this process.
The filler material, in turn, canare made of a variety of metals, the supply of which to the weld zone of metals is produced in the form of a strip or a so-called rod. The device of argon-arc welding carries out the timely dipping of the filler material in the weld pool in the amount necessary for the given technological process.
As mentioned earlier, next to the burnerthere is a nozzle inside which there is a special holder for the electrode, in the same place where the gas is supplied. This ensures that the center of the gas cloud hits the welded zone. Consequently, the probability that the remaining oxygen will promote oxidation of the metal is significantly reduced. In this regard, the argon-arc welding machine should have high resistance to electric current and thermal radiation. This indicator plays a significant role in the selection of equipment for a particular technological welding process.
Classification of welding devices:
The device of argon-arc welding can be equipped with electrodes of two types:
A welding machine of this type can beis presented in manual and automatic execution. However, even such a small difference brings with it some related changes. For example, in the automatic welding machine it is customary to use only an electrode wire, which at the required speed enters the zone where the required parts are welded.
Advantages of this method include a rather small thickness of the welded seam, high efficiency and reliability of the process.
