In the late 70s, Joaquin's parents left the sect, changed their last name to Phoenix, and settled in Los Angeles, USA. Arlene got a job in the casting department of the NBC channel, thanks to which she was always aware of what auditions are and where. She, like her husband, was full of confidence that her children would definitely become popular actors. The parents also took care of finding their own agent for Joaquin and his brothers and sisters.
