The need for a separate specialized building

In 1910, the project was improved; a place of 472 square sazhens and 80 thousand rubles was allocated for free, followed by an annual, for 10 years, surcharge of 4,000 for the construction of the building, in which the Lermontov Library was located until the opening of the new modern building in 2012. New high-rise building with a total area of ​​25 thousandsq. m. is a well-equipped scientific center and entertainment complex at the same time. A book depository and reading rooms, an electronic dissertation hall and a digital library, a children's information center and a huge concert complex, a cinema and a cafe are located on its territory. In the center of the city, in an old classic building on Belinsky Street, 10, there remained a library for the blind and visually impaired, a computer literacy training center, a foreign library and the editorial board of the magazine “Sura”, which the library named after A. Ch. Lermontov. Penza could not part with the old building, which is associated with the lives of several generations of citizens.
