In 2009, a film appeared on the screens, the third in the franchise of the cult American-Canadian series - "Stargate: The Universe". Actors were confronted with the task of creating a tense psychological drama. And although to some viewers this attempt seemed far-fetched, in the end, a great film about human relationships against the background of space entourage turned out.
The plot of the whole history of the existence of certain Stargates, built by the ancients in the most unexpected places of the universe. Through them you can get into another dimension or to a planet that is a few light years away from the Earth. They permeate almost all the boundless space of the cosmos, but the trouble is that modern people do not always know how to manage them, and that they are waiting for the other side of the gates. Getting on different planets, getting acquainted with other races, people try to unravel the plan of the ancients who started this whole experiment.
The first two series about the world Stargate attracteda huge number of science fiction fans with exciting adventures and impressive special effects. The premiere of the third part has plagued many of them in shock. At first glance, nothing has changed radically, the content is still based on the exploration of the cosmos. A group of people consisting of scientists, civilians and military is trapped in an ancient spaceship under the meaningful name "Fate". None of them knows how to manage it, but one thing is clear - it is moving in the opposite direction from the Earth. Soon they understand that the ship has its purpose and even, perhaps, its own mind, it is he who chooses who will be his commander. In a confined space, without knowing where they are, people must learn to survive in an extreme situation, combining efforts. But each of the participants of this forced expedition is not what they say they are for, each pursues its goal.
Actually, this was the factor thatdivided the fans of the series into two opposite camps. Some perceived the psychological component with enthusiasm, others were indignant at the director's attempts to emphasize human relationships.
It was worth it to do or not, but the movie turned outjust such - tense, exciting and unusual. You can watch it even if you have not seen the previous seasons. In many reviews of telemans who watched the series "Star Gate: The Universe", the actors received the highest marks. It's amazing how exactly they were chosen for their roles and how naturally they merged with the images. Psychologization of the story line added a film of plausibility.
The main feature of the heroes of this film -ambiguity of characters. There is not one frankly positive or negative nature. From series to series, the image line of each of them is smoothly unwound. That's why the actors of the series "Star Gate: The Universe" were selected with special care.
The main pride was Robert Carlisle, who played the role of Nicholas Rush and skillfully embodied the complex character of his character. This is an outstanding scientist, obsessed with the idea of exploring the cosmos, because of which part of the team considers him insane. But the other half, consisting of civilians, chose its leader. Severe psychological state of Nicholas is aggravated by the experiences about the recent death of his wife.
The role of Everett Young, Rush's main rival, performed by Luis Ferreira. Providing mutual understanding between civilians and military, he is in fact the captain of the starship. It is helped in this by Matthew Scott, played by theatrical actor Brian Smith. A young, ambitious lieutenant, he is absolutely confident in the power of justice and team spirit. However, the events on the ship make him realize that he is not ready for much in life yet.
Eliz Levek so brilliantly conducted samples of two verydifferent and difficult scenes that the producers did not doubt - the role of Senator Armstrong's daughter Chloe should be taken exactly by her. The loss of her father tempered the character of her heroine, but nevertheless finding a space trap turned out to be a difficult test for her.
The film's comedy center is Eli Wallace. A young scientist who hides low self-esteem behind a peculiar sense of humor. The role was played by actor David Blue.
In 2010, at the Gemini Awards in Toronto in 9nominations was presented to the series "Star Gate: The Universe". Actors Carlisle and Ferreira were nominated for Best Actor in the Drama Series, and Andy Mikita claimed the prize for Best Director. In 2012, the film was awarded the "Leo" award for best make-up in the drama series. Also, the film was nominated for an Emmy Award for visual effects.
Impacted the series and the fate of those who shot it.Some actors of the movie "Stargate: The Universe" felt the shooting as a major event in their personal lives. David Blu, for example, was so dedicated to a saga about space travel that this gave the writer Brad Wright an opportunity to call him "technical adviser to the series." And the image of Daniel Jackson so firmly adhered to Michael Schenx, which became for the actor fatal. This role glorified him to the whole world. After he left the series, quarreling with the directors and producers, the fans forced the writers to return it to the film, creating a site in support of Jackson. However, after the shootings in any large-budget project, Shanks never took part.
Is it worth watching the series "Stargate:Universe"? The actors worked for the glory, the writers created a surprisingly rich story, make-up artists excelled in their art of creating incredible images - what else is needed for a quality film in a fantastic style? Oh yeah, impressive special effects. And they are here. The visual design of the mysterious worlds of the Universe is breathtaking and tickles the imagination. In general, the series will appeal not only to fans of this genre, but also to fans of dramatic films with complex intertwining relationships of heroes.
