The state is in South America, in itssouth-eastern part. The name of the country came from the name of the main river. Uruguay neighbors with Brazil and Argentina, its eastern and southern coasts are washed by the Atlantic Ocean. The full name of the country is the Eastern Republic of Uruguay. The flag and the coat of arms are its official symbols.

In Uruguay, there are about 3,400 inhabitants, andonly 9% of them are engaged in agriculture. Urbanization here is very high, with every year more people come to the city. The largest cities are Montevideo, Salto and Paysandu.

The climate in the country is quite pleasant, which makes itpopular in the tourist sphere. The coast of the ocean is dotted with expensive seaside resorts, among which Punta del Este is the most famous.

The cultural and financial center of the state is its capital, Montevideo.

The country has a common past with Argentina, sotheir flags are a bit similar. As well as the Argentine, the flag of Uruguay has two types of bands (white and blue) and an image of the sun. Earlier, the Uruguayan flag consisted of 9 blue and 10 white bands. Later, their number was reduced.

The modern flag of Uruguay was approved back in 1830year. Four blue stripes alternate with five white stripes. These bands symbolize the nine Uruguayan provinces, just as many were when the attribute was affirmed.

In the upper left corner of the panel is whiteThe square on which the "May sun" is depicted. Eight straight rays alternate with eight wavy ones. The sun is a symbol of freedom and independence. It is the prototype of the Inca sun god, and also symbolizes the May Revolution, which took place in Buenos Aires in 1810.

The flag of Uruguay described above is its official national symbol. However, two other flags of the country are also used in government offices.

One of them is called Treinta y Tres, or "Flagthirty-three. " A group of 33 insurgents contributed to the organization of the revolution in 1810 and the acquisition of independence by Uruguay. The stitch consists of three wide strips: blue, white and burgundy. On the white strip is the inscription Libertad o Muerte ("Freedom or Death").

The second is the "Flag of Artigas" (the founding fatherthe State of Uruguay) - is also used as a national symbol. It consists of two horizontal blue and white bands in the middle. A wide burgundy strip runs along the diagonal of the canvas.

Coat of arms was approved in 1829.The oval heraldic shield is divided into four parts. In the upper right corner are scales - a sign of justice and equality, a black horse is drawn under the scales, which symbolizes the spirit of freedom.

In the left part above is a mountain of Montevideo.At the top of the mountain is a fortress, at its foot the sea waves are beating, signifying strength. In the left lower quarter of the shield is a figure of a golden bull - a symbol of abundance and prosperity.

The "May sun" looks over the emblem, an image that traditionally carries a life-affirming symbolic meaning. On both sides the shield is framed by olive and laurel branches, tied with a blue ribbon at the bottom.
