Vuoksa is a lake that is located on the Karelian Isthmus of the Leningrad Region, one hundred and thirty kilometers from St. Petersburg. It is located in the south-west direction from Priozersk.

A bit of history

It was mentioned in the Novgorod chronicles, and then it was called Uzerevo. The word came from the Karelian Uuzijärvi. Translated as a "new lake".

Until the 17th century, the population near Vuoksi was in themostly of Karelian origin, later it was replaced by Finnish. Then there was a new name for the lake - Uusiyarvi. It remained active until the middle of the 20th century. Later, the reservoir received a modern name - Lake Vuoksa.
