This amazing paradise uninhabited island may well claim the name “Russian Hawaii” for golden beaches with light yellow sand and crystal clear water.
Furugelm Island (Primorsky Krai) fell in lovemany tourists, although visiting it is limited. To get to it, you need a permit ticket of the Far Eastern Reserve due to the fact that it is part of its territory and is protected.
Огромный Дальневосточный заповедник простирается in the territories of Primorsky Krai in Peter the Great Bay. The year of its foundation is 1978. This natural reserve was created to preserve the most valuable inhabitants of the Sea of Japan. Their number is about 250 species of rare fish, 800 species of algae, numerous invertebrates also need protection.
The total area of the reserve is over 64thousand hectares This includes 9 islands. The very island of Furugelm is a reproduction site (aquaculture of scallop, trepang, and giant oyster). It is included in the three main areas of the reserve.
Furugelm Island is a beautiful natural corner on the very edge of Russian territory.
He was named in honor of Furugelm I.I. - captain of the vessel "Prince Menshikov", owned by a joint company (Russian-American).
Вообще остров необитаем.There are only a cordon and a research station from the Institute of Marine Biology. This island may well claim to be one of the most beautiful places, and not only in Primorye.
The western part of the island is surrounded by smallbays with rocks towering above the water in the form of huge columns. Exactly in this place the amazing unique view opens. Western Bay is especially beautiful, which is covered with pure white sand. The shores of this bay are rocky, along them a narrow strip of beach (sandy-stony) stretches. This site is protected from southeastern winds. There is also a parking for small vessels.
The nature of this piece of land is amazing with its beauty.
Endemics are dentate oak and birch Schmidt. There are about 100 such plants in total. Now there are very few of them left. At the beginning of the twentieth century, people did not take care of the nature of this territory, and there were even attempts to organize an artel here, which led to environmental consequences.
The peculiarity of the flora of these places is that the forestsbroadleaf here are presented in fragments. Furugelm Island on most of its territory, especially the southern, is virtually treeless. All this is explained, as mentioned above, by the consequences of the barbaric activities of people (there are still settlements on the island still preserved).
For the south-east of the island is characterized by rockiness andthere are gaps. Forests grow in the north-west, and there are also depressions in the relief, ending with bays. Mainly poly-dominant and deciduous forests grow here: Amur linden, maple, oak, velvet, nosolith ash, Sakhalin cherry, Manchurian linden, but without pubescence.
Surprising is that there is preservedonly one single pine (in the area of the northern bay). The height of this unique tree is about 5 m, and the diameter of the trunk is about 14 cm. Unfortunately, it has no undergrowth.
In total, about 302 species of various rare plants are noted on the island.
Furugelm Island is a favorite place for biologists to observe the nature of the Sea of Japan.
Rocks on the east coast are strewn with birdsbazaars. Black-tailed gulls and cormorants (about 1000 birds) live and nest here. They represent the largest colony in the world. You can also find many other species of rare birds (about 300 in total).
The largest colonies inhabit underwater rocks.mussels (s) and actinium, various species of hedgehogs and sea stars. There are kelp in coastal waters up to 2 m in height. And a colony of scallops lives near the coast.
Very attractive for tourists is Furugelm Island. Rest on it, bathing in crystal clear, transparent water gives an incomparable, unforgettable pleasure. And the scenery around is fabulous.
Diving enthusiasts can also get indescribable impressions of diving into amazingly clear water with innumerable marine wealth.
As mentioned above, only by passes you can visit the island of Furugelm.
How to get to it? To do this, it is necessary to overcome almost 16 kilometers by water. It is very important to remember that adverse weather can complicate this journey.
The usual and most convenient route, which many tourists use, is the way from the village of Zarubino by boat to the island of Furugelm.
It should always be remembered that the original beauty of this amazing nature can be saved only by protecting and loving it.
