Stalin region: history and administrative division

Stalin region was created by decree of the PresidiumSupreme Council of the USSR on June 3, 1938. This administrative-territorial formation was absolutely artificial, because the region was formed from a part of the Donetsk region that existed at that time.

Stalino - the center of the region

This is the largest by the standards of Ukraine modernThe city, which today was in the zone of military conflict, was founded in 1869 by English businessmen. Foreigners mastered the new raw material base, so it was logical to observe the emergence of new workers' settlements in the territory of the Russian Empire. The city of Stalino was originally called Yuzovka.

Stalin region

The settlement developed very quickly. From 1870 to 1901, the number of residents of Yuzovka increased from 164 to 54,718 people. Such a demographic growth is associated with the constant creation of new metallurgical enterprises and the opening of coal mines. The Stalin region essentially appeared due to the formation of workers' settlements, which already in the 20th century became major cities of miners and metallurgists.

Creation of Donetsk region

In the 1920s in the USSR there wasadministrative-territorial division of land, adopted during the tsars. Provinces, counties and parishes existed practically in the old borders. The continuation of such a division of territories by the leadership of the country absolutely rightly considered an element of backwardness.

In the early 1930s, a reform was carried outadministrative structure of the state. Donetsk region was formed in the summer of 1932. At that time, it was the largest region of the Ukrainian SSR, because it included the lands of the current Donetsk and Lugansk regions (including those controlled by the organizations of the DPR and the LPR). It was very difficult to manage such a huge area, especially in conditions of repression and the lack of a developed network of communications. Donetsk region in the old format existed for six years.

Then the old name was returned to the region.

The administrative structure of the area is very clear.visible as of September 1, 1946. At that time, there were 28 cities in Donetsk (Stalin) region (of which 12 were regional subordinates) and as many districts, 94 villages, 356 village councils (1,756 villages were included in the structure of these councils). Modernity

Now Donetsk region is in the zonearmed conflict. In fact, it is divided in half into two zones of influence controlled by Ukraine and its opponents. This situation adversely affects the situation in the region. The industrial power of the region is practically lost. Many mines have already closed and will never begin their work.

The population suffered greatly as a result of the fighting, so the purchasing power of people dropped significantly.

Today it is very difficult to live normally in the once flourishing region of the Ukrainian state.
