Lake Otradnoe (Priozersky District, Leningradskayaregion) - the second largest reservoir of the Karelian Isthmus, located in the basin of the Veselaya River. It got its name in 1948. Prior to this, the lake for several centuries was called Pyhä-jarvi, which means “sacred (or holy) lake” in Finnish.
In the northern part of the lake, on the peninsula, since 1946year is a scientific experimental station of the Botanical Institute. Komarov RAS. The station has an area of 54 hectares. On its territory there are a park of dendrological research and experimental fields and plantations, where more than four hundred unique plants grow, brought from different corners of the globe.
The length of the lake is more than 13 km, and the width in some places canreach 8.5 km At Otradnoe there are five islands with a total area of almost 3 square meters. km The biggest ones are Badger and Triple. The banks are flat, slightly rugged, in some places steep. Pleasing relates to low-flowing lakes. From the Gusinsky lake the channel enters it, and the Pionerka river serves as a drain from Otradny to the Komsomol lake. Also, the reservoir is fed by several nameless streams and groundwater.
The bottom surface is silty, off the coast -sandy, stony in places. Lake Otradnoe is convenient for swimming and fishing. The water has a slightly greenish yellow color, but not cloudy. Where the shore is sandy, the bottom is visible up to 2 meters. The maximum and minimum depth is 28 and 7.5 meters. Area - 72.6 square meters. km In recent years, the lake, or rather its western part, is very actively overgrown, mainly with reeds and reeds, although due to strong tides, which are not uncommon here, the vegetation is rather poorly developed. Only 6 km separate Otradnoe from Lake Ladoga, there are several streams between them, there are swamps, so the ecosystems of the two water bodies are partially interconnected.
Lake Otradnoe is located in an area withrelatively clean environment, only slightly damaged in recent years, the construction of coastal cottage villages and roads leading to them. But there is no industry nearby, this explains the purity of water, soil and air in the area of the reservoir. Recreation centers work here all year round, so there is no shortage of tourists.
Clean air contributes to a large number ofconiferous trees. Almost from all sides the sandy coastline of the lake is surrounded by coniferous forests. Most of them are pines. The island of Barsuchy is almost completely covered with pine trees. Due to the fact that Lake Otradnoe is surrounded by mixed and coniferous forests that grow around the perimeter of the coastline, foxes and deer, wolves and boars, elks and bears, ferrets and hares live here.
The world is rich and feathered representatives.Ornithologists account for almost 280 of their species. Wild geese and ducks are noticed in the swamps. Often there are wood-grouse, hazel grouse and black grouse. The flora of these places is vast and diverse - no less than thirty species of medicinal plants alone grow. The forests surrounding the lake are rich in mushroom and berry places. Some of the species of local vegetation are listed in the Red Book.
Otradnoe has a huge number of fish species: from roach and perch to pike perch, pike and trout. Lovers of winter fishing are waiting for whitefish, ruff, burbot and perch. In the spring, roach and white bream are caught the most.
Getting to the lake for lovers of fishing is not difficult. If you walk on foot, then from the station "Sukhodolie" to the reservoir 2 kilometers. Also here are country roads, which you can drive. Near the lake passes Priozerskoe highway. In order to get to its coastline, it is necessary at the station "Gromovo" turn right and move to the village Yablonovka.
