History

In 1875, Shakhmatovo acquired the famous Russian botanist, the rector of the University of St. Petersburg, A.N. Beketov, the grandfather of the future poet. He created here a family nest, laid the traditions and way of life.

Alexandra Blok grandfather brought to the estate insix months old. All his life Alexander Alexandrovich came to the estate in the summer. Here he learned the world, wrote his best poems, was sad and happy, and pondered. Here he met his love - Lyubov Dmitrievna, the daughter of a neighbor, DI Mendeleev, who lived in Boblovo. The revival of the manor

The Museum-Estate of Blok in Shakhmatovo began to be createdin 1984 in the same place where the estate was located. However, accurate information about his whereabouts was not preserved. According to the memoirs of the indigenous people of these places, they managed to find out exactly where Shakhmatovo, the Blok’s manor, was located. The museum received its first guests in the main house of the estate in early August 2001. To date, the main house, the carriage house, outhouse, barn has been completely recreated.

Manor Alexander Block "Shakhmatovo" is not at allis great. It is surrounded by centuries-old fir and linden. It is pleasant to walk along the shady paths, to admire the poet’s recreated house, an outbuilding, which is buried in thickets of wild rose, lilac and jasmine.

Since 1970Famous and today very popular All-Russian poetry festivals are held on the beloved Klukovskaya Polyana. It has become a good tradition to hold them on the first Sunday of August. The Alexander Blok Museum occupies two floors. On the ground floor there is an entrance hall, a grandmother’s room, a dining room with access to the park, a blue lounge, a grandfather’s office, a room of Lyubov Dmitrievna Blok, the poet’s wife.

Main manor house

The interior of the house is recreated bythe memoirs of M. A. Beketova - the poet's aunt. In her memoirs, she described in great detail how the rooms of the house looked like, what kind of furniture they had, she even described such details as wallpaper on the walls and small decorative elements. This information was invaluable to those who restored the estate.

The exhibition presents both authentic itemsbelonged to the family of the poet, who kindly provided the museum with relatives of Blok and typological objects. Room E. G. Beketova

Famous translator, daughter of the illustriousRussian traveler and researcher G. S. Karelin - E. G. Beketova - was Alexander Blok's grandmother. Her room is on the first floor of the museum. The decor is very modest - a polished elegant table by the window, a chair with mahogany armrests, a large and cozy chair.

Blue living room

As many visitors point out, it’s surprisinghow modestly, and sometimes even ascetic the decoration of Shakhmatovo. Manor Block (photo and video inside the house for some reason prohibited), has one very interesting room, which the poet mentions in his poem "Retribution". This is the blue lounge. Its walls are covered with blue wallpaper, on which lighter blue lilies are applied.

Here every evening all the inhabitants of the manor gatheredthey played charades, read aloud, listened to music, met numerous relatives and friends. The decoration of this room is an old black piano, which the museum presented to Marietta Shaganyan. Once upon a time, the great Sergey Rachmaninov played on this instrument.

White dining room

This room is also quite concisely decorated - white ceiling and walls, a table covered with a white cloth, and a clock with weights on the wall. From the dining room there is access to the park.

Cabinet A. Block

Manor of the Block "Shakhmatovo" recreates the situationoffice in which the poet worked. It is located on the second floor. Here is the old desk, which went to the poet from his father. He has his secrets - secret mailboxes, where Block kept his wife's letters, some manuscripts. Today, visitors can see the authentic bamboo shelf, wicker chair and bookcase, which were brought from the apartment of the poet in St. Petersburg. In addition, there is a travel box and a bench. The room is spacious, it has a lot of light thanks to the large windows, which offer a magnificent view of the surroundings.

Outbuilding

At the entrance to the yard from the station isouthouse. Today it houses the permanent exhibition “Beyond the Last Days ...”, which tells about the history of the acquisition of Shakhmatov, about famous people who visited the estate. She came to visit the estate, and the great-grandmother of the poet A. N. Karelina lived in the outhouse. In 1904, Block and his young wife began to live in it.

A park

"Shakhmatovo" (Blok's estate), surrounded by a smallbut a very picturesque park. Today it contains rare plants that Bloom and his relatives planted. It is especially beautiful in summer, when the manor is simply buried in flowers.

Village Tarakanovo

You can continue exploring the museum’s exhibits atTarakanovo village, which is located three kilometers from the estate "Shakhmatovo". In the surviving building of the former Zemstvo school, which has been preserved since the Blok times, an exhibition dedicated to the work and life of the poet has been created. Here are copies of his drawings, reproduction of his manuscripts and numerous photographs of the Block and the Beketovs. Here you can see portraits of friends and the very first editions of poems, favorite books by Alexander Blok. You may be interested to see the metric book from the church of Michael the Archangel. It was funeral in 1902, the grandfather of the poet A. N. Beketov. Alexander Alexandrovich was also married here.
