The main airport of Israel was opened in 1936.Initially, he wore the name of Lydda airport, later it was renamed Lod. But in 1973, after the death of the first Israeli prime minister, the airport got its present name.

The largest airport in Israel is located 15 kilometers from Tel Aviv. The complex consists of four terminals:

• The first terminal was built in 1936. Today this building mainly serves VIP persons who arrived at the airport on private jet planes.
• The second terminal was built at the end of the 20th century. But he worked only until 2007. The building was demolished, and in its place a new luggage terminal is being built.
• The third terminal was built relatively recently, in 2004. It takes the main stream of tourists from all over the world.
• The fourth terminal (backup) has not yet been officially opened.
