The Northern Capital of the Russian Federation -St. Petersburg - by its geographical location is a water city, as the territory of Peter is on the coast of the Gulf of Finland of the Baltic Sea. Therefore, the water theme and St. Petersburg were always close to each other. In the city, since the time of Peter the Great, sailing has been actively developed and improved, yacht clubs are being created.
There is also the Sailing Academy, in which children and adults study. In it, they learn the subtleties of the sea business, build yachts with their own hands, participate in competitions.
It is known that the first yacht club on the territory of St. Petersburg appeared in 1718 with the assistance of Peter I.
Currently, the city has 15 yacht clubs, including water-motor clubs and firms that lease yachts.
Every year, since 1948, in St. Petersburga sailing race "The Big Neva Cup" is held, organized and conducted by Valentin Semenov (until 2005). Since 2007, again, according to the established long-standing tradition, the event was resumed.
