Any new engine requires first stagesparing modes of operation for "breaking in" its individual parts. However, the non-fulfillment of this condition is unlikely to seriously damage a good power unit. Based on this, the relevant question is whether the running of the outboard motor is necessary at all and how to produce it. The answer is very simple: failure to comply with the requirements of the instructions (where running is listed as mandatory) will lead to the removal of the warranty on the engine. Well and, besides this, by properly “rolling in” the new engine, you may significantly increase its service life.
Running the boat motor
If, for any reason, the seller or his service did not “run in” the new motor, it should be done independently, following the diagram presented:
- The first fifteen minutes we warm up the engine onIdling. In this case, it is necessary to conduct an audit of the cooling system. The control “jet” of coolant should not be interrupted, but should flow smoothly. If the cooling system is in order, you can proceed to the next item.
- The second stage lasts up to two hoursengine Here let's say “gas” at half the stroke of the handle, which should be no more than 3,500 revolutions per minute. Every ten to fifteen minutes should be changed engine speed, but do not exceed the above limit. As in the first stage, special attention should be paid to the uniform flow of the control “jet”.
- Третий этап.Raise the engine speed to 2/3 of the stroke of the handle (4500 rpm). Every fifteen minutes, manipulate the "gas" within the above limits. In this mode, the running of the outboard motor should occur within two hours.
- The fourth stage. For three hours, periodically for one two minutes we give full gas, and then reset it by three-quarters of the knob's stroke.
As in the previous stages, we try everyFifteen minutes to change the speed and do not forget about the control of the water pump. After the running-in of the boat motor is over, one should avoid permanent work at full throttle for some time (3-4 hours). You also need to try every fifteen minutes to manipulate turns. Do not exceed the maximum recommended by the manufacturer. Then you need to do maintenance, replace the oil in the gearbox, check the compression. Everything running in is completed.
Features running some engines
Running-in of the Yamaha outboard motor is made with the addition of excess oil. In the first ten hours of engine operation, the ratio of the mixture of fuel and this fluid should be 1/50.
Similarly, with increased oil content infuel mixture should be run-in of the Mercury outboard motor, but with a different ratio - 1/25. In both cases, you can not run these engines out of the water. This can lead to failure of the cooling system. And yet: if the running-in of these engines occurs in the cold season, it would be advisable to put more “hot” spark plugs, which should prevent the formation of carbon on them due to the high oil content in the mixture.
General rule
Для замены нужно использовать только recommended by the manufacturer of engine oil. Its consumable volume is small, and to save here is absolutely meaningless. Moreover, there is a risk of damaging the engine or losing the warranty on it.
