Emblem of Tsaritsyn

The coat of arms of Volgograd in the past looked somewhatotherwise. Since 1730 it was used for military banners. It represented a banner of heraldry, the crown rises majestically above. In the center, two fish of the sturgeon family were laid crosswise. They were painted on a red background.

In 1854, they adopted the official coat of arms of the city.It was approved by Nicholas I. It was divided into two fields: blue was on top, red was from below. In the upper part was a stone tower. On a red background, a sterlet was depicted, the fishing of which was carried out on a large scale. And the blue part was symbolized by the Saratov emblem. A little later, the imperial crown and an oak wreath were added. These attributes testified to the status of the provincial city.

Post-war years

In 1965, the question arose about creating a new coat of arms. This was due to great changes. After the end of the Second World War, the city was given the title of Hero. Naturally, such an event should have been displayed on the main emblem. In 1968 the coat of arms of Volgograd looked like this: a red-blue background was left on it, but they were changed places, and the order, gear and snob of wheat were added. The upper part epitomized the war years. On the red background (the blood of dead people and their courage) depicts the Order of the Hero City, and on the blue (sky) - gear (industrial development), from which wheat has grown. The latter is a symbol of the wealth and abundance of the earth. The blue and red fields are separated by a green stripe - a ribbon of the medal "For the Defense of Stalingrad."

New ideas

В начале XXI века были внесены предложения об small changes in the logo. The coat of arms of Volgograd was proposed to be supplemented with a soldier of the Red Army and Tsaritsynsky regiment, returning to the previous image with sturgeons. The Order was to be moved to the lower part and framed with ribbons or an oak wreath. Another option: a woman with a sword on a red background, symbolizing the war, and at her foot - crossed two sturgeon. However, by 2015 none of the proposed arms were accepted.
