In Russia, an incredible number of churches thatdedicated to the Theotokos. The same goes for, by the way, and icons. Surprisingly, in the religion of Christ in the folk environment, the Virgin Mary is much more revered. Most likely, this is due to the fact that it is a more understandable and closer archetype of the mother, who for millennia was revered in the person of the Mother Goddess. One of the temples dedicated to this woman, namely the Temple of Praise of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Volgograd, we will discuss below.
Virtually all churches dedicated to the motherJesus Christ, revered as the eternal maiden and the highest after God in the universe, are consecrated in honor of any of her icons or events from life. In this sense, the Temple of Praise of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Volgograd is a very, very rare exception. He, unlike others, is consecrated in honor of the holiday, which is based not on historical facts, but on metahistoric, legendary legends about how the Virgin was taken to heaven in a resurrected body and was there crowned as a heavenly queen. The Temple of Praise of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Volgograd), whose photo you see below, celebrates its patronal feast in the week of Akathist. There are similar churches in the Kremlin, Nizhny Novgorod and some other places, but they are still very few.
Temple of Praise of the Blessed Virgin appearedVolgograd in 2005. Historically, on the site of its construction, there has never been a temple before. In order to open the church there, the city authorities had to allocate the building, according to its original purpose though cultural, but not at all cult. It was a former cinema called Mir. The cinema building and the adjacent territory were transferred to the ownership of the Orthodox Diocese of Volgograd. For about a year, preparatory work was carried out on them, transforming the former leisure center into a religious building intended for worship. And already in 2006 the Temple of Praise of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Volgograd was opened for the performance of divine services. Before this same building, it was first required to clear of the debris accumulated in it. It was necessary to make repairs on the cleared territory. And in addition, in order to correspond to the traditions of Russian Orthodoxy, the Temple of Praise of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Volgograd) was equipped with an iconostasis and an altar annex.
Gradually the temple was more and more ennobled andwas improved. So, in 2009 he got a well with holy water, and a water pipe was built in the building itself. A year later, a Sunday school opened at the church, where on Sundays there are classes for children. In the same year next to the building of the former cinema began to build a baptistery, that is, a baptismal, so that you could perform baptisms in it.
In this temple are stored some significant forreligious relics. For example, the relics of the Monk Alexander of Sanaxar. In addition, the church has the relics of St. Demetrius of Rostov.
