Inflammation of the iris: causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and prevention

The organ of vision has a subtle and perfectorganization, it is quite well protected from external influences. However, sometimes there are situations when a damaging agent acts on it. Under such conditions, diseases of the iris occur. The latter is located in the organ of vision between the front and back of its chambers.

inflammation of the iris
It limits the pupil and is accessible to external research. It is her color that determines the shade of the eyes.

Inflammation of the iris (or iritite) is a consequence of penetrationinfection in the eye. This can be the direct introduction of a pathogen through the trauma of the cornea and anterior chamber of the eye. It is also possible to bring a pathogen with blood and lymph from chronic foci of infection. In addition to infectious iritis can have a toxic-allergic nature. Since the iris is closely related to the ciliary body (the muscular apparatus that regulates the width of the pupil), then the inflammation usually extends to it too. Then the process is called iridocyclitis.

When ignoring the disease or improperly administered therapy, iritis can be complicated by secondary glaucoma, cataracts.

Causes

Factors directly causing inflammation of the iris of the eye are general and local infectious processes:

  • tuberculosis;
  • brucellosis;
  • flu;
  • ARVI;
  • sexually transmitted diseases;
  • rheumatic diseases;
  • toxoplasmosis;
  • local eye infection.

To promote the appearance of ailment can:

  • other eye diseases;
  • operations on the organ of vision;
  • traumatization of the eyeball;
  • metabolic disorders;
  • rheumatic diseases;
  • immunodeficiencies.

Symptoms

The patient has:

  • pain in the eyeball;
  • redness;
  • lacrimation;
  • spasm of the eyelids;
  • poor tolerance of bright light;
  • feeling of a foreign body.

Irritation of the irisis manifested by a decrease in visual acuity, changes in color and pattern (swelling of the iris), narrowing of the pupil, loss of its shape and slow and unbalanced reaction to light.

Diagnostics

  1. Based on the patient's complaints, the ophthalmologist conducts ophthalmoscopy in order to confirm or exclude the diagnosis of "iris inflammation".
  2. It also performs a drug-dilated pupil, in which it is found that it expands with a loss of round shape.
  3. A laser examination of the organ of vision, tonometry may be required to eliminate glaucoma.
  4. To detect the pathogen make a biomicroscopic study.

Treatment

Are applied:

  • antibacterial preparations depending on the type of the calling agent;
  • anti-inflammatory;
    diseases of the iris
  • painkillers;
  • antiallergic;
  • Eye drops to dilate the pupil to prevent the occurrence of adhesions of the iris;
  • corticosteroid ointments topically;
  • biogenic stimulants (autohemotherapy);
  • Physiotherapy in the stage of fading inflammation.

It requires treatment of the underlying disease, against which the iritium appeared.

Prevention

In order to prevent inflammation of the iris, should:

  • Identify and treat eye diseases and common chronic infections;
  • observe the hygiene of the eye;
  • carry out general strengthening and hardening procedures.
