Theater "Samara Square" was opened in 1987.Created by his young director Eugene Drobysh. The status of the municipal theater was obtained six years after it began to exist. Yevgeny Drobysh is a graduate of the B. Shchukin Higher Theater School. The first performance of the "Samara Square" - "Demonstration." This production was an event in the life of the city and went far beyond its limits. The plot is based on anecdotes about politics. For this production the theater was under threat of closure. But the commission, who came from the capital, saved the Samara drama, since at the time the glasnost was announced in the country.

Eugene Drobysh was very fond of experimenting,as well as his young troupe. The greatest success of his creative endeavors was the synthesis of drama with plastic. Performances of this kind were repeatedly awarded awards at festivals of both the All-Russian and international levels. The Samara Square Theater often tours Russia and other countries. The troupe has already visited Germany, Austria, America, Denmark, Hungary. During its existence, "Samara Square" has repeatedly changed its status. At first it was a youth experimental studio, then a private theater, then a division of "Illusion show I.Kio", then an enterprise, and now - a state institution. In 1993, the troupe received its building. It is an architectural monument built in the Art Nouveau style. Previously, the building belonged to a cinema. Before the theater moved into this room, it took 13 long years to reconstruct it. At this time the performances were on rented stages. Only in 2007 the theater finally opened its doors.
