The first volume of the journal was published in 1918.The creator is considered to be P. P. Lazarev, who was subsequently appointed editor-in-chief. Before the new year of 2009 Leonid Keldysh, academician, was elected chief editor. At the end of 2016, he was gone. Temporarily, the duties of the chief editor are performed by V. A. Rubakov, acting Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Since mid-2004, the Physics Institute named after A.V. Pn Lebedeva, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The magazine prints articles that are relevant tofields of physics, as well as studies in which the authors propose and explain unusual or non-traditional conceptual ideas on the fundamental principles of the theory. Articles are always justified by material from the personal experiments of the authors.

The first to translate the scientific publication began the American Institute of Physics. It happened in 1958. Until 1993, the journal was published under the name of Soviet Physics-Uspekhi and was printed in London. Since 1996, Physics-Uspekhi has been fully prepared in Moscow: it is being translated, it is being edited and corrected, and it is recruited completely.
