World Writer Day arose in the late 20th century.At the 48th Congress of the Writers' Club it was decided to establish a new holiday. Since then, namely, since March 3, 1986, this date has become memorable for writers from all over the world. The holiday became international.
The writer's day, unfortunately, appeared very late.Ironically, the masters of the word were among people long before the appearance of writing. At that time, their stories were not written on paper, but were passed from mouth to mouth. Until now, the names of many creative figures simply did not survive and were lost. But without them there would be no modern authors, no literature as a whole. For many centuries writing was not considered a serious occupation. The authors did this for themselves. It was believed that selling works of art is a sin and blasphemy.
This holiday united many people engaged in writing. March 3, the day of the writer began to celebrate all the writers, essayists, novelists, satirists, poets, playwrights, etc.
As already mentioned above, the writer's day waswas established only in 1986. At that time the 48th international meeting of all writers was held. Congresses of writers arose long before the appearance of this memorable date. The organization "PEN-club" was established in 1921 in London. This abbreviation was deciphered as "poets", "essayists" and "novelists" - by capital letters of words in the English sound. The organization uniting all literati,appeared thanks to Katherine Dawson. It was she who in 1921 decided to create her own club of like-minded people. The president was D. Galsworthy. And two years later the first meeting was held under his leadership. After that, the branches of the club were opened all over the world. Writers' congresses were held in 11 countries.
President Galsworthy in his post was more than 10years. For all the time he did not allow the penetration of politics inside the club. However, after the Second World War, a large number of oppositionists, led by the Belgians, came to power. The meeting of 1932 was the last for Galsworthy.
Despite the fact that after 1932 Galsworthy did not appear more in the club, he managed to introduce a certain charter of 5 points, which all members of the assembly had to observe.
However, during the congress of writers in Dubrovnik, some rules were ignored. In those days, all Europeans and Communists were expelled from the club. The delegates loyal to Hitler came to power.
Today PEN-clubs are already in 130 states. The main goal is to defend freedom of speech. This principle must be observed by members of society from all countries that signed the final resolution.
