It used to be grown outdoorsonly varieties of vegetables pollinated by bees, in particular, cucumbers. But gradually the standard varieties were replaced by hybrids, which are called parthenocarpic, or self-fertile, that is, setting fruit without any pollination.
Advantages
Parthenocarpic cucumber has a higher boleyield, he has no bitterness, he continuously bears fruit, resistant to adverse climatic conditions and harmful diseases. In the open field, it can produce up to twelve kilograms of crop per square meter. In addition, parthenocarpic cucumber is completely devoid of seeds, so when salting it does not form a void, which was appreciated by many housewives. It has quite dark large-tuberous fruits of beautiful cylindrical shape with a length of up to 10 centimeters. The stem of this garden crop is intensively branching, thereby restraining the growth of the main stem. At the same time, a sufficiently powerful curtain is formed on it, which is necessary for good fruiting. Parthenocarpic cucumber has medium-sized leaves, which makes it possible to minimally injure the plant when harvesting. Therefore, this new hybrid is suitable for cultivation method "in spread".
Reproduction
Parthenocarpic cucumber can be grown andseedlings, and direct planting of seeds in the garden. Germination requires a temperature not lower than +24 degrees Celsius, therefore, the vegetable is sown when the soil warms up sufficiently. According to many gardeners, the best seeds of cucumbers for giving or a personal plot are parthenocarpic ones. They are grown on a sun-sheltered sunbed, which is mulched slightly with humus. Sowing on seedlings begin in late December at a depth of up to three centimeters in small pots without picking. Pour warm water through a strainer. At the end of the second week after the emergence of shoots, the plants are arranged on the basis of an average of 25 pieces per square meter. Seedlings are planted in a permanent place approximately at the age of one month, when five or six leaves already appear.
Care
Care for this vegetable is loosening, weeding, as well as in watering, and only after sunset. For the entire growing season, it must be fed at least twice. Air-permeable medium loamy soils are suitable for this vegetable crop. The most favorable precursors are onions, potatoes, peppers and cabbage.
Varieties
Parthenocarpic hybrids include cucumbers."German", "Cheetah", "Vir", "Virrent", "Europe", "Essica" and many others. They are distinguished by fruit marketability, high yield, uniform ripening and evenness of green leaves. Some subspecies are also characterized by resistance to cladosporia.
