The current planetary relief forms are veryvarious in their forms, and in their size. Some are very large, occupying a significant part of the planet, called continents. Others are not at all visible on the map of the world without a proper scale, called islands and archipelagos. However, in nature there is still such a thing as a peninsula, which seems to be washed by seas or oceans from all directions, but is still attached to one of the continents. And in order to understand this issue, we will now consider how the island differs from the peninsula and where it is possible to find similar forms of relief.
Each of us understands what an island is, knows,where on the Earth are the main archipelagos (most often tourist centers) and what is the local climate. But in order to understand what distinguishes the peninsula from the island from a geographical, scientific point of view, you need to derive an accurate definition of each of them. We note at once that both types of such relief can be located in any part of the world, both near the equator and at the poles, so they can be united only by origin, but in no way by any other factors.
So, the island is a small part of the land that is from allsides is surrounded by waters belonging to the World Ocean. In the concept of modern man, this type of relief can have large dimensions (but not exceeding the parameters of all the continents now known) or extremely small. In the first category, you can enter such large tracts of land as Greenland, Madagascar, Cuba, Java, Victoria, Honshu. The second group will be occupied by archipelagoes, which are formed by small elevations above the level of the world ocean. This is Hawaii, the Seychelles, the Bahamas, the Maldives. In such groups of islands there are the main, the largest, in which cities are built. All the others can have a width and a length of just a few kilometers.

The peninsula is a land that is connected to some continent by a small section of land. On three sides this type of relief is washed by the seas or the waters of the ocean, and if the structure of the peninsula is such that it forms a bay, it is washed on four sides (for example, the Labrador, located in Canada). Similarly, the peninsula can be located at any latitude and longitude, but they are always tied to large lands.

The islands exist completely autonomously, can be located both in the large seas and in the waters of the ocean. Of course, among them there are archipelagos and single plots of land that are formed in an in-built way, so their geographic location will be close to one part of the world. Oceanic groups of islands are most often formed by a volcanic method, so staying on them is always unsafe.
On the question of how the island differs frompeninsula, can also be answered from a geological point of view. As already mentioned above, many islands that are located close to the mainland have the same structure as large lands. This means that because of the long-term tides of the waters in the ocean, a significant part of the earth has gone under water, resulting in an elevation in the form of an island, separate from a certain part of the world. Proceeding from this, it can be assumed that the former peninsulas could become islands, since their geological structure is the same.
It is important for every educated person to know what distinguishes the island from the peninsula, what are the characteristics of each of these lands, in what their similarities are observed.
