Many became aware of the name of Archpriest Oleg because ofconflict with Alexei Dvorkin, a researcher of the sectarian movement, a theologian, a medieval historian. The essence of it is that in one of his conversations, Oleg Stenyaev said that the God of Christians and Muslims is one. A.L. Dvorkin wrote in an article criticizing this conversation that such an assertion contradicts the dogmas of both Orthodoxy and Christianity in general. The open letter-objection of Oleg Viktorovich to the historian, however, did not arouse much public approval.
History of the Church of the Nativity of John the Baptist inSokolniki (then - in the Workhouse) began in the XVII century - it was erected in the possessions of the Old Preobrazhensky Palace Alexei Mikhailovich. In the years 1669-1670. in the courtyards of the estate was built Resurrection Church, intended for falconers, rangers, servants (next to it was the Falcon Grove of the Tsar). Nearby was a healing spring, called the Holy Well.
The village of Preobrazhenskoe was also an unofficial placelinks Natalia Kirillovna with little Peter. After the matured great emperor ordered to rebuild the new Preobrazhensky Palace, this one was abandoned.
Only in 1740 Anna Ioannovna in place of the old ordered to build a new Resurrection Church. But already in 1789 the throne was moved to the Ekaterininskaya almshouse, and the church was dismantled.
In the XIX century, the Moscow city administrationbegan actively buying up land in the Sokolniki area for the construction of the alms-house and hospitals. In particular, the Moscow Workhouse (House of Industriousness) was opened, on the basis of which workshops and garden facilities operated. There were branches for teenagers, people chronically sick and incapable of work. Over time, the Workhouse began to need its own temple.
Originally, a small housechurch. However, when the project NL. Shevjakova was already ready, the widow of the fabricator-cloth-maker O.A. Titova donated quite a large sum for the future temple - 100 thousand rubles. Her condition was to erect the throne of John the Baptist in honor of the heavenly patron of the deceased spouse and the throne of Matthias in memory of his deceased son.
The project was completely transformed as part of the donation:
The temple was laid in 1915, and was consecrated inthe alarming year of 1917. The first attempt to close it was undertaken in 1919, however, the event was postponed due to the efforts of the residents and employees of the Ermakovski vocational training workshops (formerly the Haas Workhouse). However, only for 3 years.
Since the 1950's.on the territory of the temple was located thermogalvanic shop MEZ number 1. In this case, no repairs, no restoration of the building for all these years was not done, which led him to a critical condition.
Only in 1998 the temple and the adjacent to itthe territory was considered a cultural and social heritage, and the building itself was returned to the Orthodox Church. But at the same time the building belonged to the bought property of the bankrupt MEZ No. 1 LLC "The newest technologies and communications".
And only in 2009 as the Church of the Nativity of JohnForerunners, and his land, the two houses of the Workplace were completely given to the Russian Orthodox Church. Once again, a few years of repair work and restoration have helped to restore the historical appearance. Today the temple in Sokolniki has almost been restored and is glad to receive the parishioners.
