Bios is a basic input and output system,is implemented in the form of firmware required to provide the operating system with access to the hardware of the computer. In other words, thanks to this system, the PC is initially booted, and the OS has access to hardware: a keyboard, hard disks, network cards, a video card, various ports, etc.
Why update the Bios?Manufacturers of motherboards do not always have time to develop a complete optimal code for its work, so already in the process of sales they are engaged in its optimization. Find the finished files that allow you to update the Bios, you can with the motherboard manufacturer. You do not need to flash the BIOS for just that, there must be some good reason for this, for example, you need to expand the functionality of the supported devices, or there are currently any malfunctions in the operation of the hardware. Only in such situations it is necessary to undertake the updating of Bios, otherwise this is a risky exercise that can completely disable the motherboard. In addition, if the motherboard is under warranty, then by refreshing the BIOS, you will lose it. In other words, think 10 times before undertaking this task.
So, let's proceed to the operation of flashing the BIOS.We'll tell you how this is done, using the example of motherboards from Gigabyte. Update Bios Gigabyte by and large does not differ from this operation with the motherboard of other manufacturers.
For work we need a new version of the BIOS,USB flash drive (if you plan to update when you boot the computer, which is preferable). Before flashing it is necessary to prepare a USB flash drive, for this it is convenient to use third-party software, for example USB Disk Storage Format. The bottom line is to format the flash drive in FAT32 format, while choosing the path to the BIOS files in the program. They consist of three files, but we are interested in one of them, which has the .FC extension.
After preparing the flash drive, you must restartthe computer and when it is loaded enter into the BIOS (delete key). Our goal is to return all settings to their original state by selecting Load Optimized Defaults. After that we save the settings, exit the BIOS and press F8 when the computer is booted, this will allow us to select the source of the boot. Naturally, we choose a flash drive. In the opened menu, it is necessary to turn off the Keep Dmi parameter, this will allow you to re-determine the hardware when the BIOS is flashed. Then click Update and wait for the update to finish. I want to note the fact that during a flashing it is inadmissible to turn off the power of the computer, most likely, it will not turn on any more. Therefore, it is recommended to flash the BIOS with an uninterruptible power supply.
The above described method of working with Gigabyte boards is applicable to other boards. That is, updating Bios Asus, for example, will occur in the same way.
Some manufacturers allow flashingbios through the operating system with the help of a special utility. But we would not recommend this, because a malfunction in the operation of the operating system can lead to unpleasant consequences.
