The culture of protest, or who are punks

In the sixties in the USA there is a musicalrevolution. For the first time, bands such as The Beatles, The Stooges, Rolling stones and other similar bands come on the scene, whose sound is based on only a few chords. Later the groups The Ramones and Sex Pistols with their style and appearance finally determined who are punks.

who are punks
Originally punk originated as a musical style. However, this subculture, as we know it now, was created in the 1970s as a protest against a too "right" and neat rock scene. Begins to appear more and more musicians with extravagant hairstyles - the Iroquois, in leather jacket-jackets decorated with chains and pins. This appearance expressed protest against the existing way of society and mass culture. Often to this day on the backs of punks you can see the letter "A". This is also one of the attributes of culture, meaning anarchy. Punks do not accept a mass society with its political life. The desire for freedom is expressed in their defiant behavior.

It is generally accepted that the integral parts of thissubcultures - alcohol, smoking and drugs. However, looking at people who use all of the above and engage in promiscuous sexual intercourse, we can not say with certainty who punks are. There are also such currents as sXe (Straight edge), HC-pans, punks - vegetarians. Their main idea is self-control and rejection of bad habits. Much of modern society smokes and consumes alcohol, while this offshoot of punk culture leads a healthy lifestyle, with the help of this, again, expressing protest.

Over time punk culture went far beyondmusic. The artist Andy Warhol with its bright colors and unusual shapes is also referred to as punk style. Ray Stevenson, Alex Levak and several other famous photographers once created a brilliant series of punk rock photos. In the literary works of Jim Carol, John Clark, as well as the poetess, called the godmother of punk rock, Patti Smith, we also find the ideas of punk culture. In their works they try to answer questions about who such punks are, what they are driven by and many others.

punk concerts in moscow
In the USSR punk culture was inextricably linked withactivity of the underground. In the seventies, the so-called literature of samizdat was actively developing, and with it clandestine concerts - apartments. At this time Andrei "Pig" Panov created the first punk band of Leningrad "Automatic Satisfactors", which remained the only one before the creation of the legendary "Rock Club". In the early 80's, other similar collectives began to emerge, such as the "People's Militia", "Department of Self-Binding". It was almost impossible to exist in the conditions of the then regime, so the first punk concerts in Moscow, Leningrad and the cities of Siberia (these were the main centers of rock culture at that time) were held in cafes, dormitories and similar places, not intended for performances. And every concert meant a risk and a threat. Who are punks in Russia? These are revolutionaries who tried to break with the existing system in the country. The main idea driving any punk is the idea of freedom. He disgusted the mass society with its mercantile values, so punk seeks to break with it. These ideas find expression in his clothes, behavior and creativity.
