Sights of Crimea: the mighty waterfall Wuchang-Su

The Wuchang-Su waterfall is one of the mainnatural sights of peninsula Crimea. He has not only a wonderful name, but also a beautiful legend. Ancient legends say that near these places the dragon once stole a beautiful girl. Now it again seeks to return to people and falls from the rocks with water, saving the local population from drought. There is also a tradition that there was once a sea. On the uppermost rock was discovered a metal ring, which could serve to anchor the ships. However, this is not known for certain.

general information

Wuhan-Su waterfall is not only the largest waterfallin the Crimea, but also one of the largest in the former CIS countries. However, he attracts tourists not only in size, but also in an unusually beautiful nature. Almost any explorer conducting with the group in Yalta, necessarily at least mentions this monument of nature. At 7 kilometers from the city of Yalta, the Wuchang-Su waterfall lurks high in the mountains. On the way to the castle "Swallow's Nest" you can see only the edge of the gorge brownish color and white point - water intake house in the waterfall, which from this distance is almost invisible. However, in spring even from here you can see how two threads of water fall from the upper rocks - this is the Wuchang-Su waterfall.

Wuchang-Su waterfall how to get

How to get there?

You can get to the waterfall on a publictransport or on your car, the Yalta-Bakhchisaray highway leads to it. But it is very dangerous. Getting on your motor transport, you should follow certain precautionary measures. Do not accelerate to a speed of more than 40 km per hour. The route winds along the mountain slopes, on it there are many sharp turns, descents and ascents. Low speed will help to cope well with the serpentine of the road, and passengers do not get sick during the journey. The route was built in tsarist times. Construction began in 1858. Initially, only a section was made from Yalta to Wuchang-Su (it was already ready in 1872). Completely the construction of the road was completed by 1888.

You can also take a walk, starting from the house-museum named after AP. Chekhov in Yalta.

Infrastructure

To the waterfall is a small, but well-groomedtrack. The car can be left at the souvenir shops on the highway. Entrance to the falls is for a fee. However, strangely enough, in the spring there are not always on-site cashiers, so you can enter the protected area for free. It should immediately be said that in the spring the waterfall is much more beautiful and richer than in the summer. The whole road to it is well decorated and equipped.

There are stairs leading to the cascades of the waterfall, andviewing platforms. One of the rapids built the Mogabinskoe reservoir. On the approaches to it there is a small house. On its roof there is a sculpture of an eagle, an inhabitant of the Crimea. Many tourists manage to get to it, to tie a ribbon not on one of the pines on the way to the waterfall, but on the neck of this majestic bird. From this point you can see how large portions of water break from the rocks and crash down. No wonder the name of the waterfall from the Crimean Tatar language is translated as "flying water". But the original name (Greek) Kremasto-Nero (which means "hanging water") is more suitable if you watch from afar.

Description of the waterfall

The height of this magnificent structure of natureis 98 meters. In summer, tourists can come close to the streams of water falling down. But in the spring the volume of water is much larger, which makes it difficult to approach the waterfall, but it looks more impressive. One of the travelers-local historians noticed that in June one can see only one-fifth of the entire power of Wuchang-Su. Therefore, it is best to come here in March or April, when the river gained a lot of water from melting snows and rains. Standing next to Wuchang-Su at this time is simply impossible: clothes, shoes are wet, and the sound of falling water is deafening. The power and greatness of it can be seen even in the photo.

The waterfall Wuchang-Su originates from the same namea 7 km long river. On its way there is not one waterfall, there are three. Wuchang-Su, the largest, is located at an altitude of 390 meters above sea level. Above there are two more waterfalls, the height of one of which reaches 16 meters. In especially cold winters the water freezes here and tourists can observe the icefall, which in itself is very dangerous. However, there were daredevils who not only admired the beauty of the ice waterfall, but also climbed it to the upper ledge. So, in the 1980s, such a "feat" was made by mountaineer Yury Lishaev.

Nature

The road to the waterfall passes through a beautiful parkwith high-mighty mighty pines - this is what the Crimea is famous for. The Wuchang-Su waterfall is also an opportunity to see the so-called Yalta amphitheater. High pine trees cover the city in a ring, creating a stunning spectacle. Pines in the Crimea differ from the north with their trunk, which has a grayish shade (they are also called the Palas Pines). The air here is crystal clear. Firstly, due to the fact that cars can not be reached, and secondly, because the pines produce a large number of phytacides that purify the air and make it truly curative. Often, the trees are built on the rocks themselves, preventing their destruction from rain and moisture. Streams of water rushing from the tops of mountains form streams and channels, washing stones.
