The drug "Cefuroxime", instructions for use, side effects

"Cefuroxime" is an antibiotic of the second generationcephalosporins. The drug is used to treat infectious diseases, it has sensitivity to most gram-positive and negative bacteria, including strains that are not sensitive to amoxicillin and ampicillin. After parenteral administration of the drug, its maximum concentration in the blood plasma begins already after 45 minutes, the half-life is equal to 70 minutes, it is excreted within 24 hours in the unchanged form with urine.

In bone tissue, sputum, pleural andcerebrospinal fluid, soft tissues and skin, myocardium, the therapeutic norm of the concentration of the drug "Cefuroxime" is observed, the instruction indicates its ability to penetrate the breast milk and cross the transplacental barrier.

Good bactericidal properties are the reason for the appointment of treatment of many diseases with the drug "Cefuroxime", the instruction for use indicates the following indications for the use of the drug:

- ENT diseases (sinusitis, otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis);

- diseases of the upper respiratory tract (empyema, pneumonia, bronchitis);

urogenital infections (endometritis, gonorrhea, adnexitis, pyelonephritis, cystitis);

- skin diseases and pathologies of soft tissues (erysipeloid, impetigo, erysipelas, pyoderma, streptoderma, furunculosis);

- Bone and joint diseases (tendovaginitis, osteomyelitis, bursitis, arthritis);

- Diseases of the digestive tract.

As a preventive measure of infectious diseases in the postoperative period, the drug "Cefuroxime" is also prescribed.

Form of release of the drug - powder,from which the injection solution is prepared in a dosage of 250, 750, 1500 mg. Injections are administered parenterally, the dose is individually administered depending on the age of the patient and on the severity of the disease.

It should be cautious to carry out treatmentwith the preparation "Cefuroxime", the instructions for use indicate the possibility of side effects, they are usually of a short and easy nature:

· Circulatory system: leukopenia, eosinophilia, neutropenia, decreased hemoglobin level, thrombocytopenia (rarely).

· Kidney, urinary system: the blood serum increases the level of nitrogen, creatinine, urea.

· Gastrointestinal tract: diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, increased bilirubin.

· ENT - organs: hearing loss was observed in children who received treatment for meningitis.

· Nervous system: rarely - strong excitability, headaches and dizziness.

Allergic reactions also occur withtreatment with the drug "Cefuroxime", the instruction for use describes rare cases of anaphylactic manifestations, skin rashes. Long-term use of the drug may adversely affect the body in that it causes an increase in the number of other bacteria that are insensitive to the agent, for example, the genus Candida. With increased sensitivity to the antibiotics of the penicillin and cephalosporin series, the use of the drug "Cefuroxime" is not recommended for use.

With an increased dose of the drug administeredthere are negative reactions from the side of the central nervous system in the form of excitability, convulsions. Treatment of such symptoms is performed with peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis. To date, unfortunately, the issue of treatment with the drug "Cefuroxime" of pregnant women has not been studied, therefore it is not recommended to take it during this period, it can be justified only if the benefit of such treatment prevails over the risk for the child.

When lactation, taking the medication is not recommended because of its release through breast milk.

Special recommendations on the storage conditions of the drug is not available, it is necessary to choose a place inaccessible to children and do not expose the medicine to the effects of sunlight, heat and moisture.
