The uterus is muscular and almost completelya hollow organ that has several layers. And one of them is the endometrium. Such a mucous membrane lining the uterus from the inside and plays a very, very important role. The fact is that this layer is designed to provide the most favorable conditions for the attachment of the ovum to the wall of the uterus in the event of pregnancy. In addition, the phenomenon (change) of the menstrual cycle, as bleeding (ie, monthly) also occurs with the participation of the endometrium. Throughout the entire cycle, this important membrane undergoes some metamorphosis: first, it prepares for conception and subsequent bearing, then, in the absence of pregnancy, a part of it is rejected, after which active development and maturation begin again.
So, what are the norms of the endometrium on the days of the cycle?
1. The first stage is the stage of bleeding, that is, the very beginning of the period (1-3 days). At this stage, the thickness of the endometrium can normally be 0.2 to 0.3 millimeters.
2. Then comes the regeneration stage (approximately on the 2nd or 4th day of menstruation), and then the endometrium thickens to 0.3-0.5 millimeters.
3. The early stage of proliferation begins on the 5th-7th day of the cycle and lasts approximately 3 days. At this time, the thickness of the mucous membrane of the uterus is usually 0.5 millimeters.
4. Following is the middle stage of proliferation (approximately 7-10 days of the menstrual cycle). At this stage, the thickness of the endometrium on the days of the cycle thickens to 0.8 millimeters.
5. Then comes the last, late, stage of proliferation (this is 10–14 day of the cycle), at which this indicator can reach 1.1 cm.
6. Next comes the early stage of secretion (14-18 day of the cycle). At this stage, the endometrium can thicken to 1.2 centimeters. The lower limit of the norm is 1.1 cm.
7At about the 19-23rd day of the menstrual cycle, the middle stage of secretion begins, at which the thickness of the mucous membrane of the lining of the uterus can reach a maximum of 1.8 centimeters, and on average 1.4. And this is the highest value for the entire cycle.
8. And from 24-27 days the endometrium begins to gradually thin, and at this stage the thickness can be approximately 1-1.7 centimeters.
If the endometrial thickness by cycle days is notcorresponds to normal values, it is worth talking about deviations: hyperplasia (thickening) or hypoplasia (thinning). In the first case, the cause is probably caused by diseases such as uterine fibroids or endometriosis. And the second situation (namely, thinning) may occur due to insufficient blood supply to the endometrium, endometritis or hormonal disorders.
