Very often for surface treatment of asphaltand waterproofing of various structures, bitumen emulsion is used - a peculiar system in which the particles of the main component are represented in the water phase in the form of isolated elements. To ensure that such a medium does not exert a bonding effect, all kinds of additives, emulsifiers, are actively used. It can not be denied that bitumen waterproofing is beneficial in terms of saving resources and environmental purity. Usually specialists in the process of work are faced with different brands of the base substance. In this case, the compositions obtained can differ significantly in properties.
Any bitumen emulsion requires addingsolvent, and its amount should be fairly accurate. Otherwise, precipitation of individual components or excessive dissolution of the mixture may occur. The solvent is used as an agent reducing the viscosity of the composition. As for the water contained in such a waterproofing, the cationic mixtures are less sensitive to the added volume than the anionic analogs. The latter of them react intensively to the amount of impurities contained in the added liquid.
When making mixtures, a specialinstallation for the production of bitumen emulsion, which has a complex structure. It includes: a main unit with a colloid mill, electronic control systems, metering lines of water and bitumen, storage tanks for various materials, as well as pipelines and pumps. The work is carried out on the principle of thorough mixing, assuming further emulsification of the composition. The quality of the final product depends very much on the homogeneity of the mixture and the pretreatment.
Virtually all equipment assemblies are made ofmaterials, not subject to corrosion, which allows to achieve the maximum service life. This particularly applies to units and parts that have direct contact with the aquatic environment. Currently, only automated equipment is used, which allows obtaining a high-quality product when the bitumen emulsion meets all the requirements. The number and characteristics of products are measured by special sensors. Based on the fact that the properties of the finished mixture depend on the emulsifiers, devices that can absorb the components in two directions appear on the plants.
Before the bitumen emulsion is appliedon the surface, the substrate must be carefully prepared. To do this, get rid of the old cover and from various debris, leveling potholes larger than three millimeters. Then priming with emulsion composition is carried out. The consumption of the mixture is particularly affected by the type of surface to be treated. Looking at the packaging, you can see the average consumption of the product. When water from the solution evaporates, a thin film of bitumen will remain on the surface, protecting the next coating.
