Thus, the silencer is responsible for reducingexhaust sound, and it also prevents the formation of a large resistance to the output of the exhaust gases. Otherwise, the cylinders will begin to fill, which will eventually lead to loss of power and incomplete combustion.

Types of the muffler

  1. Resonator type muffler.This device uses closed spaces located near the pipe and attached to it through existing holes. Usually in one such building there are two different in volume compartments. These spaces are also divided among themselves. Thus, each such hole is a resonator of the muffler, which contributes to the excitation of oscillations of its frequency. This frequency is quickly repaid with its spread. That is why such a silencing device is used as a preliminary element, occupying the first position in the entire exhaust system. In addition, the silencer resonator does not offer much resistance to the flow formed, due to which the cross section does not decrease.

  2. Reflectors. The muffler housing contains acoustic mirrors that reflect sound waves. If using a given mirror to create a certain maze, then the output will be heard a faint sound.
  3. Pistol silencer is similarly structured. However, this design of the muffler is considered more perfect. Usually this element is used as a terminal.
  4. Absorber.This device absorbs acoustic vibrations with any porous material. For example, if you send a sound to a mineral wool, then its fibers will oscillate. In the process of friction sound vibrations will be transformed into heat. This principle of operation allows, without reducing the cross-section of the pipeline, to perform the entire design of the gas removal system. And despite the fact that the resonator silencer is not used here, the resistance to flow and noise reduction will be minimal. It is for this reason that most often combined systems are used in factory automobile silencers, due to which there is a significant reduction in noise with minimal resistance to flow.
