The construction of the port began in 1935.Norilsk built a mining and smelting complex, there was an urgent need for delivery of cargo for construction. The first structures in the port were erected in 1936, and its first ships were adopted in 1939.
Officially the port was opened on December 8, 1944. In 1945, it was transferred to the Norilsk Mining and Metallurgical Combine, from that moment it is a subdivision of the plant.

Since 2012 in the sea port of Dudinka worksa mobile defense complex that provides control of the sea and land area within a radius of 50 km. The complex includes seismic and hydroacoustic stations, which make it possible to detect and recognize the enemy even on approaches to the port.
